When we booked a stay at Inn at the Pier, we knew we wanted to be in the center of the action…steps from the beach, close to the pier, and no car keys needed once we were there. We have stayed here before and knew this hotel checks all those boxes. It’s not a tiny boutique inn, but it’s also not a massive resort where you feel like one in a crowd. Instead, it’s a perfect blend of both with a modern, beachy Cali vibe, but still walkable and connected to the beach town energy that makes Pismo so special.
From rooftop cocktails at sunset to lazy morning strolls along the pier, staying here means the best of Pismo is right outside your door.
First Impression
Pulling up, valet had us checked in and keys handed over in minutes (a big plus when parking near the pier is notoriously tricky). The lobby is really nice, modern with subtle coastal decor with local homage…it fits the vibe here. It’s not the kind of hotel where you hang in the lobby, but it makes a solid first statement: fresh, coastal, and not overstated. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the property itself felt very well-kept. For us, it was exactly what we wanted…simple, efficient, and ready for the weekend.

The Room
We stayed on the third floor in a room with a balcony overlooking downtown. It was spacious, airy, and spotless! The decor is a modern coastal vibe that felt stylish without being kitschy. We loved that our room was close to the rooftop bar and restaurant, making it easy to pop up for a sunset drink.
The beds were a bit of a letdown. Ours had two doubles, which felt like a missed opportunity considering how much space there was for queens. That said, the beds themselves were very comfortable, and the room offered everything you’d expect: premium Wi-Fi, a mini-fridge, air conditioning, a large TV, and even a sizable coffee bar area that made mornings easy to enjoy our coffee on the balcony.

Amenities
Inn at the Pier has just enough extras to keep your stay fun and convenient:
- Fitness Center – Compact, but a nice option if you want to squeeze in a workout.
- Beach Cruiser Rentals – Perfect for exploring the boardwalk or cruising through town.
- Splash Pool – It’s more of a plunge/splash pool, small in size, and located right in the middle of the rooftop restaurant. For me personally, it can feel a little awkward when people are dining or lounging nearby.
- Lobby Market – Handy for quick snacks or drinks with good options
- Valet Parking – Efficient and worth it for this location, where parking is usually a headache.

Rooftop Bar & Restaurant
This is hands down the highlight of the hotel. The rooftop is where everyone wants to be whether you’re staying at the hotel or not. With panoramic views of the ocean, fire pits, and a modern-chill vibe, it’s the perfect place for sunset cocktails. Live music on weekends adds a fun, relaxed vibe.
The food is great, the drinks are better, and the setting makes both memorable. The menu was fresh and flavorful, with everything from coastal-inspired small plates to classic brunch favorites. At night, the energy shifts into a cozy, social hangout with cabanas and firelight. During the day, it’s equally great for lunch with unbeatable pier views. If you stay here, make time for at least one rooftop meal and one happy hour. You’ll thank yourself later.
The Restaurant
On the ground floor, the hotel’s restaurant is bright and inviting, airy enough to feel coastal but cozy enough for a relaxed breakfast. We ate here one morning simply because it was convenient. The food was good, just nothing to rave about.
That’s the thing about staying here: you’re surrounded by excellent local options, and it’s worth stepping out. Some favorites nearby include:
- Breezeway Café – Just a couple of blocks away on Pomeroy Ave. Known for their creative breakfast burritos and bubble waffles…so good, plus really good coffee.
- Honeymoon Café – A local favorite on Dolliver St. A tiny, no-frills café with hearty breakfasts and daily specials that make you feel like a regular.
- Splash Cafe – Down a block on Pomeroy, You will see line around the corner…that will be for the clam chowder. Yes, Pismo takes chowder seriously and you can’t go to Pismo without having some.

Pricing
It’s not the cheapest option (especially during summer and high season), but for the convenience and views, I’d say it’s worth it. Standard rooms typically range:
- Two Doubles or King Rooms: from around $230–$275 per night depending on season.
- Ocean View Rooms: usually $300–$400+ on weekends.
- Suites: often $500+.
Expect higher rates during summer and weekends, when demand is at its peak. For location, comfort, and that rooftop bar, it’s well worth the splurge if you’re planning a beach weekend.

Location, Location, Location
This is where hotel really stands out. It’s is literally on the pier, so you can walk to the beach in seconds, head to local shops in minutes, and enjoy dinner, drinks, or ice cream without ever needing your car.
Nearby highlights include:
- Pismo Pier & Beach – Right outside the door. Perfect for morning walks or people-watching.
- Old West Cinnamon Rolls – 5 minute walk; legendary giant cinnamon rolls that are worth the line and the splurge
- Pool Hall – A local pool hall that’s been an institute to downtown for years.
- Bowling Alley – For a family fun afternoon, you can head down to the alley to play a couple of games
- Downtown Restaurants – From casual fish tacos to sit-down seafood, everything is within a few blocks.
- Local Surf Shops and Boutiques – While walking around, you can’t miss Poncho’s Surf Shop, Moon Doggie’s, Drift Boutique, and Esteem.
The town is small, compact, and easy to walk around. Once you’re checked in, you can park the car and forget it.
Final Thoughts
By the end of our stay, we agreed: The Inn at the Pier was perfect for what we needed. A beachfront base with all the essentials, the best rooftop view in town, and zero parking headaches. Sure, it comes at a higher price point especially in peak season but perfect for a weekend getaway, the convenience and vibe made it absolutely worth it.
Would we recommend it? 100% yes. It’s a stay that pairs best with slow mornings, barefoot beach walks, and amazing sunsets that Pismo Beach does so well.
Final Tip: If you’re planning your own Pismo trip, build in time to simply wander. Stroll the pier, watch the surfers, hangout over coffee. Pismo has this way of reminding you that the best moments aren’t always planned, they’re everything in-between.
If you could do one thing? Head up to the rooftop at sunset, cocktail in hand, and watch the sky turn every shade of pink over the Pacific. That’s the moment that makes this hotel worth it
